1941-western-flyer-balloon-bicycle-morrow-hub-bike 1941 Western Flyer Balloon bicycle Morrow hub bike
This is a 1941 Western Flyer Balloon tire bicycle in good condition. One of the highlight features is the rare and much sought after Morrow coaster hub. The identification on the hub says, "Eclipse Machine Division" "Made in Elmira NY USA" "36-13" AND the age identifier "J1" which let's us know it was made in January 1941. Several collectors have written me to advise that the welded kickstand actually makes the bike a 1940 model with the frame being produced by Huffman Imagine the kid who got this bicycle sometime around the great depression and during WWII! America was at war with Germany and that very same year (1941) the USA would be at war with Japan. That must have been one rich kid! The rear dropout is the sought-after screw-adjust type. (See photo) Also of particular note is the rare skiptooth chain and sprockets. Please see photo for details. Kickstand is welded to the frame. The springer saddle is in good condition. It has been re-covered, however. YES! The seat-post bolt appears to be original with the flat machined side. The bike is in good shape. The wheels are straight and in good condition too. The front tire is in very good condition. Surprising, really. - not cracked. Carlyle Tire and Rubber Div. "Lightening" with the ripple sidewalls. 26" X 2.125, of course. The rear tire is a new knobby tire - not original. The bicycle has been re-painted - (not my doing). The original paint is hidden, but the re-paint probably saved the bike from the elements over the years.
